trim carpentry day 4
Now we’re talking. The trim carpenters got lots of cool stuff got done Monday. Staircases are getting worked on, and there’s a built-in bench with storage inside in the mud room. Plus they did a row of storage cubbyholes, which is finished nicely with a face frame detail that makes it look great. A lot of teh trim details that will make our house distinctive are beginning to become visible at last. It’s really cool to see things come to life that you’ve only seen on the architectural drawings.
Lots of pictures in this update, so enough chat, let’s look and see what got done:
Episode 1: The Staircase
This is just getting started, but it’s an area where there’s a lot of details.

Episode 2: The Mud Room
Everyone we know who doesn’t have a mud room wishes they had a mud room. This will likely be a main entrance into the house for the family. So we spent a lot of time considering how to finish this area, even though it’s “utility space” so called. These details are things I think will add trememndous value to the house, not just resale value, but ease-of-use and utility for the family.

Episode 3: The Bookcases
This detail is just getting started, but watch for the next couple updates to see how cool this really turns out. These boards will case the non-structural pillars that divide the family room and dining room.

Episode 4: The Exterior Trim
This work mostly got done over the weekend. There’s a lot more to do, but you can start to see how the exterior porch columns are going to look.

Excitement is really building (pun intended) now. We’re really starting to see a house instead of a job site.
