Not much is happening at the moment, nor has it for the last week or so. The painter is caulking seams in the siding and nail holes on the exterior. The back porch faming is done, and the framing carpenters got the columns framed that hold up the front porch roof.
There are a couple of things that need adjusting, like the columns under the porch are too close to the edge of the porch, and the stone applied to the bases would overhang the lip of the porch unless they move them back by 4-5 inches. And the ceiling in the family room is framed wrong and needs to be redone. I don’t have a firm expectation of when this will be complete.
Meanwhile I continue to work on wiring the house for network, television, and audio. I’ve pulled 26 Category 5e wires (for networking my computers), 5 RG6U Quad shielded coax wires (for teevee), and there are two rooms plus the two porches wired for audio. I haven’t terminated most of the wire yet, but I have the supplies. I’m using Leviton QuickPort modules and wallplates, so I can freely mix connection types in the same jack plate.
All my cable will pull back to a rack in the basement, which will hold all the audio and networking gear, plus a few computers dedicated to functions like file server, and dedicated audio playback machines (hey, old machines can still have a useful life). The idea is that I can use remote desktop protocol to control an MP3 player running on a machine in a rack that’s hooked directly to my audio system. That way, any PC in the house should be able to control audio. I’ll post some more details on the design later.
