care and feeding
I found an excellent article about septic tank maintenance. This type of thing is very interesting to me since I’m a city boy who’s never had a septic system before.
I got interested in this after reading some discussions on forums and hearing some differing opinions about the required maintenance and prohibited substances etc. I’ll be spending a healthy chunk of dough on mine, so I obviously want it to go smoothly and be maintenance-free to the maximum extent possible.
It sounds like with some ordinary care (i.e. don’t do anything stupid) there should be very little maintenance required.

"do what he say"…. I had a septic system at my last house TRUST ME, you want to do whatever it takes to avoid having to go back into the ground and work on that thing. A note you might learn from since you are possibly tractor shopping… I drove a backhoe over my septic system and had to dig the whole thing up to replace the runoff pipe… and you know what that thing is running off don’t you?…
at least I had the backhoe to dig it up… but without the backhoe, it wouldn’t have ever happend… one of those chicken and egg things.
