a little fun on the weekend
With the pasture mowed, the pond full of water, the sun shining, and most of the chores taken care of, we had a great fall day to spend out goofing off. Our pond was dug just before we bought the property last March, so we knew there were no fish living in it. With our pond only being about 1/3 of an acre, I am pretty pessimistic about getting a proper balance established with any bass. I read a number of pamphlets about it and talked to my dad, and ultimately decided that the cheap solution was the best. So I packed up the kids and we headed to Minnesota Avenue bait shop and got us some four-inch goldfish for $4.50 a dozen.
The goldfish will eat up about everything in sight, plus they were cheap, and I know they’ll winter over. And the kids love them, and they stand a chance of actually being visible in the pond. And with all of ten buck invested in this project, if disaster befalls them, I’ll get over it pretty quickly.
Anyhow, on with the pictorial. This is what you can do for fun on a beautifal fall day if you have two kids, a couple dozen cheap goldfish, and a pond.

All in all, it was a great outing, the kids burned off lots of energy and had a good time, they got to go to the bait shop, they got new fish, they picked flowers, they caught bugs, and now my pond is stocked and maybe the fish will eat up the food and the frog population will die back a little.
