interlude

Lots of stuff is going on, but it's either involving meeting with subs, or doing something that doesn't get portrayed well in pictures. I'll post a consolidated text update of what has happened over the last several days.

more plumbing, more HVAC, and roofing is done

The roof is done, and that's the big change on the elevation. After we get the exterior painted, there won't be a lot of change to the view from the street. There's still a few bits of ductwork left to finish, and now that the bulk of it it in, the plumber is moving ahead with the roughin.

Excavator Mike dug us a couple burn pits, so I stopped by the fire station on the way home and asked about a permit. They require burning to be 100 feet from the house or any structure, so we need to get new pits dug, ours are too close. But since excavator Mike left his backhoe on the site, it shouldn't be a big deal if we call him today and tell him.

roofing nearly complete

Those guys were working in 100 degree weather (that's about 40 in real degrees) up on the roof. I can understand why they'd want to get it done quick. I snapped a couple shots from the road and went right inside to inspect other stuff.

roofing under way

We pulled up and there were dudes walking around on the roof. Normally by the time we show up on the site, the subs are gone for the day. But these guys worked until they were more or less in the dark.

more roughin plumbing done

Some of that pipe is installed and looking like something now. I won't bury you in pictures of roughin plumbing (although I certainly could). Jut a few to give you the feel that some work got done today.

roughin plumbing starts, and a new project

We noticed the plumber had been here on Saturday. Didn't do much, but marked things out and brought out material for the DWV (drain waste and vent) lines.

a break in the action

For now, nothing much is going on at the job site. We had some meetings with the cabinet salesman, and he came out and measured, and drew the layout on our floor with crayon. We met with the builder and decided some details, like doing the back screen porch in cedar, and exactly where the vanity cabinets are, and a few miscellaneous things like that.

framing mostly complete

At this point, the framing is "done" except for the front porch columns, the doors, and the back porch. In any event, the framing crew is gone for a while, and will come back to finish those items.

that's a big block o' concrete

I'd like to thank Eddie for the title of today's episode.

The front and back porches are poured! They look great too, with a broom finish that will keep them from being slick in the rain. Our front porch is 60 feet long by 8 feet 3 inches deep. At 4 inches thick, that's 6 yards of concrete (Thanks to Cooter for the correction).

Besides that, there's some additional work done on framing details inside, and the big noticeable item for today is the roof over the front porch being almost complete. Big progress.

siding is complete

They finished adding the front siding to the house. I didn't even notice until after I came home and was looking over the pics. They also joined the soffit of the porch to the one on the garage, finished the roof, and did a bit of work on the vaulted ceilings in the master suite. No concrete porches yet.
